It’s a funny feeling still being in lockdown so far into the new year. It was inevitable really, but it still feels a bit odd. That being said, it hasn’t stopped me from dreaming of UK road trips.
You might have seen my other posts about my travel plans for 2021, and looking back and looking forwards where I ponder ideas about planning trips. While holidays further afield are tempting, I think realistically, 2021 will be the year of the local road trip.
Dreaming of UK Road Trips
I am aware that we are from free enough to be jumping in the car and heading out for a far away adventure and road trip, but planning is part of the fun.
I got lots of Pevsner Architecture guides for my birthday last year, which has been fuelling my need for some UK city adventures. I’m more than happy to be wandering a city and discovering more about the place by learning about the buildings and streets. Pevsner does a great job in helping facilitate this.
The good thing about a dreaming about UK road trips at the moment is that they are actually far more achievable and more likely than any other kind of travel. While restrictions might lift for the UK, we can get out to cities further from home. Last year, we were luck to have UK road trips to Blackpool, Alton Towers and a couple of other places too. It was nice to see somewhere else, and the journey was part of the fun.
Places I want to go on a UK road trip
There are a lot of places I would love to visit right now, from Blackpool for a walk along the prom, to Chester to walk the walls. I was recently included in an article by Day Insure, sharing attractions to visit on a UK road trip. I shared my experience of visiting Chester Zoo, somewhere I have visited for over thirty years. Somewhere with plenty of memories, great for a day trip and also somewhere doing some good for the world in terms of conservation.
If you’re short of ideas for your own UK road trips, it is definitely worth checking out your area in the Day Insure list.
Keeping it very local
I know that it will be at least May until we can really get out on a wider UK road trip, so I am also planning some very local ones. PLaces withing an hour from our house. We are moving soon, so that will be an excellent opportunity to find new places to visit, which will be very exciting.
For now though, I plan on going to Chester, Blackpool, Liverpool, and with any luck, Yorkshire Sculpture Park – somewere I have been dreaming of taking a road trip to for longer than I can remember. I miss art!
