My friend Zoe, over at Splodz Blogz, hosts the annual Splodz Daily Photo Challenge every February. Each year, I dabble in joining in and this year I am taking part again. So far I have done two days on the run, which might be a record for me!

The idea is to encourage you to get outside (she is an Ordnance Survey Get Ourside Champion) and to look at the things around you a little differently. It is something I do all the time, but I am never one to turn down the opportunity to support a friend or have a guide for looking for something new. Every day is a chance to see your world in a new light, and this is a great way to do it too.
What you have to do
The idea of the Splodz Daily Photo Challenge, or SplodzDPC as it is commonly known in the hashtag world, is simple. You need to grab yourself a screenshot of the daily prompts (see below) and then on each day head out for a local wander with them in mind. You then snap a photo or two (always good to grab a few to choose from) and then post it to social media with the tag #SplodzDPC.

So far, we have had “Hello” and “My Own Adventure”. My “Hello” one is my smiling face at the top of this post and today’s is from my reverse commute around Clayton Vale this morning.

More than just a photo challenge
The nice thing about the Splodz Daily Photo Challenge, is that it is more than a photo challenge. It encourages you to get outside, even when it might be a bit mizzly and cold, and it also works as a fun way to meet new people online.
Every day you post, it is worth checking out the #SplodzDPC tag so you can see what other people have been up to. You can then drop a comment on the other participant’s photos and give them a follow. I have made plenty of new friends through challenges like this one, and I am sure I will make more this month too.
I think at the moment it is also nice to collect little pretty snippets from your days. While we are in lockdown, it is easy to fall into the trap of wishing for the things we can’t have (holidays, trips away, meeting up with people) so this is a simple way to get you back to enjoying what you have right now. Right in the present moment. Yes, it might be local. Yes, it might be on your own or with the people in your household of bubble. But there are still plenty of things to enjoy and discover. It is simply a case of looking out for them when you go about your daily business and on your outdoor exercise.

I am also using the prompts as an opportunity to practice my Dutch over on my new space on the internet, My Little Dutch Blog. I will be posting a mini blog every day in Dutch. (Don’t worry if you don’t speak Dutch, you can always use google translate and laugh at my muddled language!)
I’ll also be posting over on my instagram account too, so be sure to head over and say ‘Hi!’ and post your own #SplodzDPC. I’ll be sure to check out your posts too and cheer you along as well.
Here’s to getting outside this February, making some new friends and discovering fun things around the Splodz Daily Photo Challenge prompts!
