It’s no secret that I’m a crazy cat lady as well as a wanderer. With six cats at home, balancing my love for travel with making sure they’re safe and happy is… a lot. I adore exploring new places, but the reality is that I often spend as much time checking in with my cat sitters or refreshing my many cat cameras as I do relaxing. With a house full of rescues, each with their own quirks and health needs, leaving them behind always plays on my mind.

Luckily, I have an amazing support team. Brilliant sitters. My vets at Stockport Vets 4 Pets (shoutout to them!). Vet friends who are always there to ease my worries. I also use plenty of smart cat devices — fountains, feeders, and more. But I still wanted something extra to take a bit of the weight off when I wasn’t home.
Discovering a cat activity tracker!
Then an advert for Moggie — the cat activity tracker — popped up on my feed. It was a Kickstarter project for a little “Fitbit for cats.” The cat tracker monitors things like playing, jumping, walking, resting, sleeping, eating, drinking, and even litter use (some activities are in BETA). It felt like it was made for me.
Noir was heading into his super-senior years with chronic kidney disease and IBD. Charlie was living with a leg injury. Frodo was managing megacolon. The timing couldn’t have been better. Instead of relying on seven million Ring cameras covering every tray and room, Moggie promised insights for each cat individually. I was sold. Six cats = six trackers ordered.
When they arrived, I took it slow. My cats had never worn collars before (except Noir, who is harness-trained). I found beautiful Liberty-print collars on Etsy from a local maker in Stockport. Armed with lick-e-lix, I started the introductions. Within a week, they were all wearing them happily — even Odin, the newest addition. Once the trackers were clipped on, they barely noticed them.

Since then, Moggie has traveled with me in spirit. I’ve taken plenty of trips, and instead of checking cameras over and over or bothering my sitters, I just glance at the app. Seeing that everyone is doing their normal things gives me real peace of mind.
How I’ve used Moggie while at home
But honestly, it’s been even more useful at home:
- Vet visits: I’ve used Moggie data to inform appointments (my vet even had one for her own late kitty, so she gets it).
- Medication changes: I successfully tapered Frodo off his meds and now just monitor his litter usage (in BETA) through Moggie.
- Charlie’s leg: I can see when he’s overdone things and get him in for pain relief sooner.
- Noir: I keep an eye on his daily activity to know he’s still doing his “normal” senior-cat routines.
- Odin: Watching him get more active as he’s settled in has been reassuring.

Moggie shows me trends for each cat. That way I can spot when something isn’t right. The weekly summaries help me notice things I might have missed in a busy week. I can even use the in-app chat to ask questions and learn more.
The best part? Even as a self-confessed cat guru, I’m still learning new things about my cats every day.
For me, Moggie doesn’t replace sitters, vets, or the routines that keep my cats happy. It just adds another layer of support. If you’re a traveler with fur kids at home, I can’t recommend it enough. The peace of mind is priceless — and with no monthly subscription, it doesn’t eat into the holiday fund either.

Disclaimer: In the interest of transparency, I now work for Moggie. I still love it as much as the day that I discovered it on Kickstarter and would buy it again now for the peace of mind when I’m busy or away. An added layer of attention for my cats that I didn’t have before. The links are not affiliated, and I don’t get any income for promoting Moggie.
