Weekend Out and About Ideas

27th January 2017 by Sarah Leave a Comment

Wow, it’s the weekend again so time for another round of Weekend Out and About Ideas to get you out into the fresh air and taking an adventure.  If you’re in Manchester or the North West, then check out my three great places to get your outside this weekend.

I might be cold but wrapped up in lots of layers will keep you cosy while you’re out.

Oh yeah and if you’re looking for an extra reason to get outside, why not take part in my Weekly Photowalk Challenge?  Check out the details here! The theme this week is ‘Windows’ (and I don’t mean of the computer kind either!!

Check out some bird life at Brockholes

Brockholes is the lovely nature reserve tucked up against the M6 in Preston.  It has plenty for the kids to do in the amazing playground as well as lovely walks around the lake.  If you fancy a bit of bird watching, why not cuddle up in one of the brilliant new hide and enjoy nature at it’s best.

Find out more about Brockholes here.

Coed Llandegla Forest

If you feel inspired to get out and about in the forest or on your mountain bike after reading my interview with Chelsea (check it out here) then why not make a day of it by heading over to Coed Llandegla Forest in North Wales.  You don’t have to be into biking either, there are three great walking trails to have you exploring the area.

Check out my video from our recent trip here.

Exploring the Canals

Walking to the Trafford Centre | Manchester | Urban Wandering | The Urban Wanderer | Sarah Irving

If you’re looking for something closer to home where you can walk on the hard surfaces and push the buggy, then how about checking out one of the canals around the city.  We have easy access to the Bridgewater Canal accessed at Castlefield, the Ashton Canal and the Rochdale Canal from Ancoats in the centre of Manchester.  You can then walk as far as you want exploring the graffiti and plant life along the way.  We thoroughly enjoyed walking to the Trafford Centre along the Bridgewater canal.

The weekend is a great opportunity to get outside.  You don’t have to take make it a mission either with so much great stuff on your own doorstep.

They are my weekend out and about ideas, I hope you feel inspired!

Whatever you get up to, make sure you have some time outside.  The fresh air will do you the world of good and you’ll proably discover something new and exciting while you adventure!

Have a great weekend and I look forward to hearing what you get up to – remember to snap some pics for the Photowalk too!

Hello wanderer!

Manchester based outdoor and travel writer UK

I’m a writer and urban explorer who’s written for Lonely Planet (England and Experience England). The Urban Wanderer is where I share slow travel, city walks, food, cats, and the everyday adventures found close to home. I believe the outdoors isn’t only in the countryside — it’s in the streets, parks, corners and communities we live in.

Come wander with me, one small discovery at a time.
