As weeks come and weeks go, this past week can go and do one! No, to be fair it wasn’t that bad and I’m certainly not going to whinge my way into my weekly blog. It has been a funny old week really. Filled with snot, earache and the headache which comes with a congested ear. A regular affliction of mine. Not one to let colds take me down, I still got out and about having some fun and getting in my miles.
Weekly Blog
So why a weekly blog, I hear you asking? Well, you might know that some time ago I created weekly blogs. I thoroughly enjoyed making them, but work somehow snuck into my editing days, which meant that I had to push them down the list of priorities. (I chose this, it didn’t just happen!) My friend Zoe, over at Splodz Blogz, started a weekly blog series recently and it seems like a fun way to get in slightly unrelated things into the blog too. I enjoy reading hers. Which made me wonder whether anyone would enjoy reading mine. So here goes.
Under the Weather
While most people over on my Twitter feed are bemoaning the rain, storm and winds, I have been enjoying them. Being under the weather in terms of having a horrible cold, ear ache and sinus pains had meant that the cold air has been a saviour for my sinuses. I am not going to go into too much detail as I would love for you to carry on reading and to come back. However, this cold knocked me for six. It also took out many of my friends in work too, which meant we had a rare quiet week on Slack.
A highlight from our germ infested conversations was about old school alternatives and home treatments. My friend Hannah’s auntie and Grandmother had some strange ways of treating things. As did mine. We enjoyed finding suggestions in my Nana’s ‘The Management and Medical Treatment of Children in India’. Hannah and I agreed that the compress was an excellent solution to many ails though.
After a trip to the walk-in yesterday, I have some emergency antibiotics should my home remedies not suffice this time. If I have to take them, it will be my fist time taking anything in over 15 years! Fingers crossed that my little antibodies can come up trumps and keep my streak alive.
My Temperature Blankets
Speaking of the weather, and slightly tenuous link, I have been enjoying the process of making my Temperature Blanket. In case you don’t know what one is, it is a knitted or crocheted blanket where you create a temperature band chart with coloured yarn for each band. Each day to do one row in the colour coordinating to the temperature of that day. Not being satisfied with one blanket for the high temperatures, I am looping my way to two. One for the daily high and one for the daily low temperatures for Manchester.
I really enjoy the process of running through the row each evening while I relax. I am also very much looking forward to this time next year (I know, a bit premature!) when I will be snuggling up underneath the fruits of my labour.
Snacky Bars
Oh I am liking the way my themes of the week seem to be flowing together nicely. On the idea of creativity, I have been working on a number of high protein snacky bars for us. I find that the ones you can buy out are both expensive and annoyingly wrapped in plastic, so I am making it my mission to copy the high street ones to make our own. This week was on the basis of the KIND bars. Plenty of nuts and fruit, stuck together with rice syrup. They are super yummy, but they do have a sticky toffee quality to them – which also means it can stick your teeth together. We will be making our way through them anyway, but I have plans for making them less sticky. Maybe you’ll get a recipe for them in one of my weekly blogs… who knows!
Reverse Commute
Well, the weather has been a bit unpredictable this week. Some sunshine, some gale force winds and some surprisingly lashing hail storms. I’ll be honest and say that I have enjoyed the changes in weather. It has cooled my poor, sore, raw, nose for one. Although I do like the dry, I am a lover of seasons. I don’t think I would be suited to life in LA where all you need is a t-shirt every day. I have been enjoying seeing my reverse commute in a different light each day. Not simply because of the weather fluctuations, but because the mornings and evenings are getting lighter.
I am really glad that I created my reverse commute and more so when I am poorly. It is so easy to stay indoors and fester. When you get out, you get to meet people, see different things and invigorate yourself. The movement, I am sure, works wonders by pumping your blood and antibodies around to where they are most needed.
Sign of a good time
On the high of walking and meeting people. I got to spend the day with my friend Zoe. The very same Zoe, who started me on the weekly blog posts. We live in different cities a fair distance apart, so we make plans to meet up to catch up. (We have been quite bad at it really, so are making a determined effort to improve on it this year – we are planning a pottery class, glass blowing and a trip to London) Anyway, this meet up happened to coincide with the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show at the NEC in Birmingham, which is almost (ish) half way between us.
We enjoyed the show, a walk and a delicious vegan hot dog at Natural Bar and Kitchen (highly recommended). And it seems that it was a sign of a very good time that I took barely any photos. The one above from our fun and games in the Lego shop and is the nearest you’ll get to a photo of us from the day.
This past week, although challenging with the snot and pain, has been a great week. I have enjoyed getting out in all the weather, meeting up with friends and exploring other cities. My weekly miles haven’t been so much, but I certainly made up for it with miles of reading and relaxing.
And now over to you. I have had a lovely relaxing week with reading, crochet and meeting up with friends. What are your favourite ways to relax of an evening?
Also, let me know what you think about the weekly blog idea. Good? Bad? What would you like to know more about. Give me a clue and I’ll aim to get it in for week two! Thanks for reading and here’s to an excellent week all round.
Oh and as a thanks, here is a picture of Tikka and Noir
