It looks as though we are getting some milder weather this weekend (up her in the Land of Manc at least!) so it is the perfect time to get your weekend out and about ideas bubbling away. There might be a little bit of drizzle on the way, but grab your coat, a brolly and some good shoes and you’ll be fine! A little bit of wet won’t hurt you!
Remember you don’t have to go far to have an adventure. Sometimes the best ones are right in your back yard. We find that some of our favourite and most remembered adventures are when we find a little park nearby or a street that we have never seen before. Exploring the city centre is also a great adventure that is both easily accessed and free too. I bet you haven’t been on even half of the streets – now there’s a challenge for you! Explore at least 5 new streets in your area or wherever you are.
Anyway, onto the weekend out and about ideas. If you fancy taking a mini day adventure, why not try out one of these fantastic places.
The Dream
If you’re looking for something a little bit quirky and different with a dash of history thrown in for good measure then you’re going to love the Dream or ‘The head on the side of the M62’ as I have called it in the past (OK, I still call it that now!)
If you live in the North West or have ever taken a trip on the M62 you might have noticed a curious white head at the top of the hill. We had seen it many a time and decided to take an outside adventure to check it out. We discovered that not only was is spectacularly large, but it came with some history too. Oh and there are some great flat walks towards St Helen’s that you can take too – peaceful, calm and enjoyable.
Check out more in my post about it.
Tatton Park
Even though the mansion is not open at this time of year, Tatton Park offers a fantastic mini day break from the city with the expansive countryside walks, the beautiful gardens and the cafes to keep you fueled up. Oh yeah and the best playground ever for the kids! I know that it is a fiver for parking, but the amount that you can see and do there is well worth the cost. It is also under an hour to get there from Manchester and if you’re looking for an add on, then you can nip out into Knutsford Village too.
Check out Tatton in my post here.
Ruthin
If you fancy an adventure a bit further afield, then why not head down the M56 towards Ruthin. Just a one hour and twenty-five minute drive and you have a wonderful place in Wales to explore. Check out the spy-hole trail, take in the art (and a Welsh cake or two) in the Craft Centre and enjoy wandering the streets of this historic area. If you have kids (and if you don’t) the Gaol (old prison) is brilliant and not to dear either.
Find out more about Ruthin by checking out my post.
As the clouds have drifted off a little bit, the skies are getting brighter which makes for a lovely day out. Remember though, if you can’t get out and about further than your own area, then make sure you take an adventure there. We often miss the great things that are right on our doorstep, thinking that we’ll do it later or it’ll be there another day. Make that day today. I’m sure you’ll be both pleased and surprised with what you discover.
If these don’t float your boat, then check out my other Weekend Out and About ideas posts here.
Whatever you get up to, I hope it includes some outside adventure wherever you are!
Happy weekend!
PS: Remember to get snapping some animals on your adventures to add to the Weekly Photowalk Challenge of the week!
