Well that’s another week gone! But that means that it is time for some more weekend out and about ideas and outside adventures! Which in my mind, is always a great thing!
Weekend Out and About Ideas
Whether you fancy sticking around the city taking it easy or heading further afield for a hike here are three ideas to get you started. Oh and the weather up over the North West looks to be chilly but clear, so perfect for taking in some views. This week they are all under one hour from Manchester (in the car) too, so you have no excuse not to make the most of the blue skies!
Have a Picnic
While it might be a bit chillier at the weekend, it is going to be bright and dry so why not make the most of it by packing a picnic or buying something to eat out and spending some time in our fair city of Manchester? There are loads of places that you can sit and some that are much lesser known too – for that bit of peace from the bustle.
Castlefield Bowl is one of my favourite places to picnic in all seasons because there is a lovely view of the boats, plus some cover and shelter when the weather is a little bit more unpredictable. However, there are tones of other places to enjoy too. Have your pick from the 18 (yes, you read that right!) places that I have posted about so far in these posts: 10 places to picnic and 8 more places to picnic!
Werneth Low Country Park
If you fancy something a bit more energetic with some fantastic views over the city and surrounding counties then head up to Werneth Low Country Park in Hyde. Our recent visit was in thick mist so we didn’t get chance to enjoy the distant views, but you most certainly will this weekend (all being well with the weather prediction… you know what it’s like!) The picture below is from one of our previous visits to Werneth Low in November 2012, but you can see how gorgeous and expansive the views are.
Although our recent visit was in the mist and mud, you can get a really good idea about what the country park is like and the route which we explored. To check it out and to inspire you to make that short drive over that way have a look here.
Something for everyone at Lyme Park
Another great place to visit in under an hour from Manchester (in the car) is Lyme Park. A National Trust property and countryside with everything you could need for a day out. Plenty of space for walking the dogs, hilly walks and views for the grown-ups, cafes for refreshments, wildlife on the lakes and a fantastic playground for the kids. And that’s not mentioning the stunning gardens and lake.
If you’re a member of the National Trust, entry and parking is free. Otherwise it is a very decent £6 for parking which is not bad considering you can spend the day as a family here. Compare that to visiting a theme park or an indoor soft play place!
During the winter the National Trust houses and properties are mostly shut for the season, but there is more than enough to see outside in the fresh air and give you yet another reason to visit again later in the year.

There you go, three weekend out and about ideas to get you started. Remember to wrap up warm with lots of layers to keep you cosy and comfortable and enjoy getting out on an outside adventure this weekend.
I am in the planning stages of our weekend out and about ideas as I’m trying to make up for the fact that we couldn’t get out last Sunday due to having people picking up eBay stuff all day. I’m thinking some good long hikes, but we will have to see…
Have fun explorers and I look forward to finding out what you get up to!
Are you going to take up any of my weekend out and about ideas? Or do you have some of your own?
