Yesterday we didn’t have chance to walk our usual after work walk so took a quick wander around Clayton Vale instead.
I had been out at Quarry Bank Mill meeting up with my parents for a catch up before they head away on their holidays. Leaving at rush hour meant that I didn’t have enough time to take the car home and take the bus to meet Jit for our walks. Instead, I picked him up at Deansgate and took a drive over to Clayton Vale to see how things were changing there.
A little green oasis
From the outside, you wouldn’t really realise how big the park is or that is actually a lovely little oasis in the East of the city. Yeah, there can be groups of kids at times (or this time, some teens smoking a fat spliff) but they don’t disturb you. It seems since our last visit that there are a lot more joggers around these parts too. It was nice to share the park with other people doing some aerobic activity too.
The recent rain has taken a toll on the banks of the river though, washing away a lot of the path and pipes into the water-bed. One thing it does do is make the water sound even more luscious when it ripples and rushes past the stones and rocks.
Autumnal Sun
It is amazing how quickly the early sunset rolls in. Almost without notice you find that it is going dark and the dappled orange clouds are disappearing into the darkness. I do like it, but it can be a bit blinding at times if you’re walking or driving in the right direction!
We use our walks in the evening, not only as a means of exercise but a way to download the day. This way wean chew over anything that we need to from the day and then come home free and fresh from work. I love that we get chance to do this kind of thing together on a regular basis – ca you imagine if Jit didn’t enjoy walking?!
A short but enjoyable mile and half walk and we were ready to head home to the cat – who were inevitably very ready for their tea! The sun was just gently going down through the railway arch as we walked to the end of the park. A stunning way to finish a walk and prepare to go home.
I love Clayton Vale and the historical stories! Having remembered how much we enjoy the park (and looking for alternate locations for our evening jaunts as the canal gets darker) we are likely to go there more often. I’ll make sure that I share more photos and stories from our visits too.
Loving the cooler darker evenings.
Do you enjoy taking a walk after work? How do you like to enjoy the Autumnal days?
